Photography Is A Love Affair With Life

There are many things we can do to increase our happiness and love for life, photography is one such way. Engaging creatively with the world around us can lead to a heady euphoria. Getting out into the natural world is another great way to increase our zest for life. Just spending a few minutes a day in a sunny green place has been shown to have a wondrously transformative effect upon our mental state.

So just like any other non-standard career option - standard ones include engineers, doctors, lawyers, CA, MBA etc - photography can also be considered a good career option in India. Clicking a photo has become as easy with the DSLRs available in the market and the kind of results they generate and also there are numerous softwares available now to correct any flaws in post processing.

But, the true beauty of a photograph lies in the composition, timing, lighting and most of all the story it tells. That is where talent comes in. Unfortunately talent alone will not allow you to click stunning photographs. Most of the time you will need a set of good quality lenses (macro, telephoto, fisheye or wide-angle) depending on the type of photography you choose along with accessories like tripods, filters, external lighting/flashes, memory cards, spare batteries and so on. All of the photographic equipment is usually expensive. So, the first challenge is the financial investment required to get a headstart in the industry.

Next would be to improve discoverability - that is, showing off your talent and work to people so that they can offer you more work or express interest in purchasing your work. Some platforms to consider to accomplish this would be social media pages, Flickr, a Yahoo company etc. You need to market yourself and your talent as no one else will do it for you.

Once you are discovered, the next challenge would be maintain consistency and meet or exceed the expectations of clients - as in any field. This becomes particularly important for wedding photographers and portrait photographers. People always expect their photos to look better than themselves. All these steps mean that progress and success as a photographer requires long term commitment and dedication.
